PROGRAM HISTORY
The program model is from the highly acclaimed national "Masonic Model" Student Assistance Training and seeks to enhance skills of, and existing relations between, the schools and the local community. The objective is early and effective intervention with students demonstrating patterns of behavior that could threaten their success at school, and be indicators of problems associated with substance abuse.

The family of United States Freemasonry has been actively involved in funding "Masonic Model" Student Assistance training since the beginning of the National Masonic Foundation for Children in 1986.

The National Foundation adopted the Pennsylvania program model through its association with the Pennsylvania Masonic Foundation for Prevention of Drug, and Alcohol Abuse Among Children. Soon after, in 1987, the Maryland State Board of Education, and Masonic Charities of Maryland instituted their cooperative effort. The State of Illinois followed in 1989, and California successfully launched its program in 1994. Many states, (Arizona, Colorado, Michigan, Vermont, North Dakota and others), have worked with the National Foundation to establish programs to teach the "Masonic Model."
