The Student Assistance Team

The purpose of the Student Assistance Team is to evaluate and address the difficulties students encounter (difficulties that interfere with academic performance).  When students experience problems in their lives, school achievement and peer relationships are often affected.

The Student Assistance Team, made up of teachers, a guidance counselor, and a principal, is trained to help students “at risk” acquire productive coping skills.

“At Risk Students” are students whose academic performance is generally significantly below expected levels of achievement.  These are students whose problems may include truancy, personal or family alcohol or drug abuse, family trauma such as divorce, death, neglect, or emotional or physical abuse.  Sometimes they are simply young people who do not feel they fit in, and do not feel a sense of self-worth.
